Your computer is designed to be used. Still, the more you use it the sooner it will fail. THe drive wears out. The batteries have limited recharge capacity. On the other hand if you put it on a shelf and never turn it on it will also eventually fail as parts like batteries simply degrade with time.

Now how you decide to use it is up to you. Yes, if the CPUs are cranked up a lot it will generate heat. It will probably be reading the drive a lot. It might slow down other use if you are trying to play the game and watch a HD video at the same time.

I’ve been playing The Sims 4 on the same computer for a few months and it ran on high settings with a lot of cc and all expansions pack, add-ons, Now it just takes forever to load a brand new Sims 4 folder with no cc and only base game installed, plus medium settings on windowed mode. The systems heat up is as normal as that of a PC while running on its normal situation. However, when I play games (like BioShock, Sims etc) Mac just heats up immensly and fans kick in. I have never seen/felt a computer get this hot before. Again, not normal at all. The 15' MacBook Pro has both integrated graphics and a dedicated graphics card. I have a mid 2011 macbook air and i no problem playing sims 4 + get to work. I have no lag when i play at min settings. 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5 4. This computer will run Sims 4, but not very well, and not nearly as well as the much cheaper ($999) M1 MacBook Air. Everything @Bluebellflora said is correct. It's your money, and your choice what to do with it. But if you want decent performance rather than lag and frequent crashes, an M1 Mac is the much better choice.
